Congratulations to Betty Allen who was presented with the Irish Women's Network Woman of the Year Award for 2012 at the Nollaig na mBan dinner on Saturday 7th January.

For more details go to the IWN Woman of the Year page.

Great fun was had by all on Saturday night, not least of all by Betty, who was a match for even the youngest members on the dance floor. See photos on the Nollaig na mBan 2012 gallery page.

Happy Mother's Day

08/05/2011

The Irish Women's Network of BC wishes all mothers everywhere a very happy Mother's Day
The origins of Mother's Day is a far cry from the commercialisation of the day today.

Congratulations to our own Patricia Jarvis who participated in today's Vancouver International Marathon, placing 10th in her category.

In Patricia's own words:
"Just completed Vancouver International Marathon. I had a good run..injury free.

It was so uplifting to see an Irish group of people cheering along Cornwall St. with a great big Irish Flag..the first ever Irish Flag I've seen!!
I felt so proud seeing this flag and it helped me keep up my pace.

A young chap was running in Irish colors.....who is he? I want a shirt just like his!"

Well Done Patricia!

In case you've been racking your brains trying to remember the names of the various books that people read from at the literary tea, we have compiled the following list:
  • Geraldine Guilfoyle read from two of her books - Cracked Conch and Marie's Story
  • Fiona Finlay read from one of her own ficton pieces (we don't think it's published yet)
  • Anakana Schofield read from Helen Potrebenko's 1975 Vancouver novel Taxi! and from her own forthcoming novel Malarky
  • Mary Monks read from  Neil Jordan's Shade, Anne Enright's What are you like? and Seamus Deane's Reading in the Dark
What are you reading? Would you recommend it to others?
